September 5 - Late-Day Lift to Hike to Rif. Passo Le Selle

Buses do not generally traverse Passo Valles. It's a narrow winding route. When we encountered a herd of sheep blocking the road, I felt sympathetic for the bus driver, who was thinking, "Oh, great, this is the route I'm going to be driving for the next 3 months..."

Eventually, the sheep were herded off the road and traffic flow was restored.

The bus DID traverse Passo San Pellegrino and I got out to find my hotel, 'Snow Thrill', but it was closed. A person appeared from within and directed me next door to a hotel where I checked in expediently. The lift was still running and I had time for a hasty walk. So I rode the chairlift up.

Getting off the lift, I could see the rifugio that constituted a fine destination for the short hike the time afforded.

I reached the rifugio in less than 1/2 hour. I did not enter, but took a few photos. Then I trotted back to the lift, hoping I would reach it before its 5:30 closure.

Passo San Pellegrino straddles the provincial boundary, which few buses cross. My hotel proprietor had assessed the first bus from the Belluno side at 12:45 pm. But it appeared to me that there was a bus to Falcade from the Trentino side at 9:45 AM, so I went outside to wait for it.
