The base of the lift up the flank of the Pale di San Martino was located above San Martino. There was a moving walkway to get to the lift.

There was the opportunity to hike across the high lunar landscape, but I wasn't feeling very well, so I just decided to lift down instead.

Riding down the lift, a trail was visible nearby. For the brave souls ascending or descending the rugged terrain, a long rope or wire was anchored as a handhold across an exposed stretch.

Despite the moderate price tag of this hotel ($45 euros, about $50), breakfast here was well above average. There was a big vat of scrambled eggs...

I arrived at the bus stop to begin bus travel from San Martino to San Pellegrino. The bus arrived and stopped. The bus driver got out and said there was no bus. A notice posted on the wall said that - today the bus schedule would change, for the next 3 months, to accommodate road construction.

The driver said there would be a bus at 2:45. It was about 9:40 AM, and I was disappointed to be idled thru much of a potential hiking day. I went back to my hotel and fired up wifi to see if I could determine an alternate routing to Passo San Pellegrino, where I had a hotel reservation.

Despite assistance from the hotel staff and the tourist office, I could not find a different route. I returned to the bus stop for the 2:45 bus. These 3 photos are similar to the previous 3 but with improved afternoon illumination.

My hotel clerk had determined that the bus was now rerouted - to travel through Passo San Pellegrino(!, my destination) to avoid road construction that had just started.

If the bus DID pass thru Passo San Pellegrino, then I would only have to take the one bus, instead of the three I'd expected, to reach it.
