I arrived in Adelboden and checked into my hotel by
about 2 pm. It was a gloomy day with a low
cloud ceiling, but it wasn't raining.

After orienting myself at the Tourist Office, I had
time to take the Tschentenalp lift up into the
cloud.

At the top of the lift, I had the option to walk up
a nearby prominence, Schwandfalspitz, but it seemed
pointless in the cloud, so I skipped it and headed
down.

I passed what I presumed was a water level
monitoring station. Electronic sensors were mounted
on the steel arm suspended above the river.

It was cloudy - but not raining - when I got on the
lift in Adelboden. But I rode up on the Hochsthorn
lift, it was raining lightly-to-moderately.

The rain gradually tapered off as I walked, but I
was walking mostly in cloud, without grand vistas.
So I didn't take many photos.

I'm not sure where I lost the red and white trail
markings, but I realized I was no longer on the
official trail. I was on SOME trail, which I
followed down into the valley, and eventually picked
up the trail to Luegli and Hahnenmoos Pass.

I'd encountered a few mountain bikers and a couple
of hikers during the day, but mostly I'd been alone
and uncertain about my location. I was glad to reach
a named point, Luegli, to re-orient.

The next day, Monday, dawned sunny and crisp.
I rode the bus to the Engstligenalp lift. the
bus was obstructed by a parade of farm animals. I
wondered if this was the end-of-summer ritual of
bringing the grazing animals down from high summer
pastures.

At the top of the lift, I encountered a broad basin
surrounded by scenic peaks mantled with fresh snow.

The path led to a roughly circular 1-hour, almost
flat, loop trail. I power-walked it in about
30 minutes.

rocky pinnacle, but the prospect of slow, slippery

There was an easy path from Sillerehbuhl to
Hahnenmoos Pass. It seemed like everyone walking
took that one. I took the uphill route to the
'summit' of Lavey. I saw only one other set of
tracks as I trudged the slushy snow that fell the
day before.

The elevator only had 3 sides. The fourth wall
was formed by the elevator doors on the floors
served. So on that side, the 'scenery' moved as the
elevator ascended or descended.
