There's no trail sign at the trailhead. They must assume that you're starting your hike at the parking lot across the Kancamagus.

October 23, 2017 - Hike to Passaconaway from Kancamagus Highway

A parking lot just off the Kancamagus Highway provides access to the Oliverian Brook Trail.

This was the last day of a fine stretch of warm, dry weather.  I was hoping the clouds would hold off, but my views were partially obstructed.

15:25:19
2017:10:23
There's an excellent viewpoint, 0.3 miles and 200 feet north of the summit trail. Reportedly, almost 40 of the 48 4,000-footers are visible on a good day.

About a minute after I took this photo, one of my feet slipped on the trail.  My lunge for balance propelled the other foot into a rock or root that ripped my big toenail from its mooring on my toe.

16:12:51
2017:10:23
The nail did not actually fall off for another month but it was pretty well ruined.  I still had almost 5 miles to hike out to the car and did not have a surplus of daylight.  I didn't look at my foot until I got back to the car.
