After 3 buses - with schedule glitches - we made it to Kastelruth and caught a bus to Compatsch. We intended a hike up to Rifugio Bolzano and, if time permitted, nearby Monte Pez. I had hiked this route in 2014 and found it worthy...

From Compatsch, we walked to the 'Panorama' lift to start our hike.

Jen was fine, but I was quite dehydrated - due to my bad habits, salty food, sauna the previous evening, etc. I was having a very hard time, and eventually abandoned the hike to descend slowly to a rifugio. Jen continued and reached rif. Bolzano, before descending to join me at the rifugio.

While we waited for a bus in Kastelruth (to take us to Ortisei to find and ride the Seceda lift to see the Odles formation), the Kastelruth DPW employed this high-tech street cleaner to patrol the parking lot.

It was fiasco, really. We got to Ortisei and someone said we should take a bus to reach the Seceda lift. This was bogus advice, but I fell for it and we wasted valuable time in a failed attempt to reach the lift. Back in Ortisei, Jen left to travel to her Munich flight home. I succeeded in finding the Seceda lift (in Ortisei; no bus needed) for a quick trip up and down.

Unbeknownst to me when I was with Jen earlier, I discovered that the Seceda lift is easily reached from downtown Ortisei via a series of escalators and moving walkways.

Back in Ortisei to wait for a bus to Kastelruth, there was this variant on 'pin the tail on the donkey'. This seemed to be 'whack the nail into the horse'.

Apparently celebrating their Michelangelo masterpiece, Ortisei has embraced the cartoon mouse as a mascot. This statue greets motorists entering the city.
